
PHYSICIANS
Kent C. Schaefer II, MD is a Board Certified Otolaryngologist who received both his medical and residency training at the Medical College of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Dr. Schaefer has been practicing medicine in the Appleton area since 1995 and
is currently accepting new patients. He manages all aspects of Ear, Nose and Throat disease in both adults and children.
Dr. Schaefer enjoys time spent with his wife and two children
as well as sailing, skiing, hunting and painting.
Steven J. Vandenberg, MD is a Board Certified Otolaryngologist who received both his medical and residency training at
the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Vandenberg has been practicing ENT medicine in Appleton since 1998 and is currently accepting new patients. His goal is to provide excellent medical and surgical care to all of his patients, treating them as he would any family member. Dr. Vandenberg enjoys spending time with his family and participating in a variety of activities such as hiking, biking, swimming, basketball and golf.
Matthew E. Bettag, MD is a Board Certified Otolaryngologist who completed his medial training at the Chicago Medical School and his residency at the University of Missouri. Dr. Bettag has been practicing Ear, Nose and Throat medicine in Appleton since 2002 and is currently accepting new patients. He enjoys
all aspects of Otolaryngology, with a particular interest in pediatrics and allergy, as well as thyroid and sinus conditions. Dr. Bettag resides in the Appleton area with his wife and four children and enjoys photography, fishing and music.
Michael J. McAvoy, DO is a Board-Certified Otolaryngologist who joined the Ear, Nose and Throat Surgical Associates team of physicians in August 2009. Dr. McAvoy completed his residency training in Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital-Warren Campus where he served as Chief Resident. He obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2004 from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Prior to medical school, he was involved in research at several major universities and the National Institutes of Health. His work has been published several times including in a leading ENT journal. Dr. McAvoy received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is interested in sinus disease, pediatrics, and facial skin cancer. Additionally, he looks forward to providing aesthetic facial surgery to the region. Dr. McAvoy grew up in Neenah, and enjoys spending time with his wife, Leah, daughter Meghan, and son Ian.
AUDIOLOGISTS
Kristin Borgen, Au.D. is a state licensed, certified Audiologist who has been providing services for the hard of hearing and hearing impaired, in the Fox Valley, since 1996. She received
her B.S. and M.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Her doctorate of Audiology was earned through Pennsylvania College of Optometry-School of Audiology. Dr. Borgen is trained to diagnose and treat hearing loss in patients of all ages;
her goal is to educate those patients and their families on hearing loss and its effects on their relationships. Dr. Borgen
is married and resides in Greenville. She enjoys spending time with her two children, community involvement, reading,
kick boxing, skiing, hiking and scrap booking.
Jessica Jenkins-Werner, Au.D., Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist, earned her Doctorate of Audiology from Pennsylvania College of Optometry – School of Audiology in 2006. She received both her B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. She has been a provider in Northeastern Wisconsin since 1999. Dr. Jenkins-Werner has had the opportunity to obtain clinical training at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf and the Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Her professional goal is to help improve an individual’s quality of life by implementing strategies for better communication, such as amplification and aural rehabilitation. In her personal life, Dr. Jenkins-Werner enjoys time spent with her husband and three children. Her interests include traveling, camping, biking and scrap booking.
Nicole Maxam, MA CCCA is a state licensed and nationally certified Audiologist. She earned her baccalaureate degree from UW-Stevens Point and her Master’s degree from the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign. Before joining ENTSA she worked in the school setting as an educational audiologist. Nicole resides in Green Bay with her husband and son. In her spare time, Nicole enjoys gardening, boating and watching sports events with her family.
Beth Gabavics, Au.D., is a 2010 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Madison-Stevens Point Doctor of Audiology program. Her externship year was completed at the Fond du Lac Regional Clinic in Fond du Lac, WI. She completed her Bachelors of Science degree in Communicative Disorders in 2006 Cum Laude. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and American Academy of Audiology. Dr. Gabavics has experience evaluating, counseling, and treating patients with hearing loss. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, snowshoeing with her husband, leisure reading, spending time with family and friends, and watching sporting events.
ALLERGY NURSE
Renee’ Marx, RN is a Registered Nurse who works in the Allergy department of Ear, Nose and Throat Surgical Associates. She received her RN licensure in 1998 and has experience in both pediatric and emergency nursing. Renee’s goal is to educate patients and their families on allergy related issues and to provide the appropriate services to help patients overcome their allergy symptoms. Renee is originally from Louisiana and currently resides in the Appleton area with her husband and daughter. She enjoys spending time with her family and her two dogs as well as reading and motorcycling with her husband.
