ASHA ADA AAA

Congratulations on your journey to improved hearing!

Only one in five people with hearing loss actually seek help, so by visiting the Audiology Department at Ear, Nose & Throat Surgical Associates, you've already taken a BIG step. We evaluate and diagnose hearing loss, as well as appropriately fit hearing aids for individuals of all ages, including children.

One of the most common birth defects is hearing loss or deafness, which can affect as many as three in every 1,000 babies born. Inherited genetic defects are just one cause that can lead to hearing loss and deafness, both of which may occur at any stage of a person’s lifespan. Other causes may include: medical problems, environmental exposure, trauma, and medications.

Hearing loss is one of the most common health conditions, particularly as people age. Most people over age 65 have some hearing loss, and by age 80, nearly everyone does. Because hearing loss usually occurs gradually over the years, you may not realize your hearing ability has gotten worse.

Our Commitment is to improve our patient’s quality of life through better hearing and ear health.

  • Improved family and social interaction
  • Improved self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Improved job performance
  • Improved word understanding in background noise

If you think you have hearing loss, choosing a hearing professional is one of the most important decisions you can make. Since a hearing aid cannot be prescribed like eye glasses, proper hearing aid recommendation and fitting is dependent on the expertise of the hearing professional selecting the instrument. Options are extensive, enabling hearing loss individuals to experience excellent quality and comfort from their hearing aids. However, the options can be confusing, even overwhelming.

We Strive to simplify the technical jargon and help you become an informed partner in finding your hearing solutions. We evaluate and diagnose your hearing, select and provide the hearing instrument best suited to your needs in addition to offering support, counseling, and service of the hearing system. We will also help you protect your hearing from further deterioration through education about what affects your hearing. This includes the proper use and care of hearing protection devices.

We have met few patients who initially wanted to use a hearing aid. With thorough evaluation, accurate hearing aid adjustment, counseling, and fitting, we continue to see the positive effects of improved hearing through hearing aids in the lives of our patients.

Advances in technology have made today’s hearing aids better than ever. Even so, you can learn techniques for better listening. Along with hearing aids, these techniques will help you understand what is happening around you.

Have your hearing checked if you:

  • Have to ask people to repeat themselves often.
  • Have to strain to hear normal conversation.
  • Have to watch other people’s faces very carefully to follow what they’re saying.
  • Often misunderstand what people are saying.
  • Turn the volume of the television or radio up so high that others complain.
  • Feel that people are mumbling when they’re talking to you.
  • Find that the effort to hear leaves you feeling tired and irritated.
  • When using the telephone, that you hear better with one ear than the other.

We offer a 45 day trial period for all hearing aid purchases and 2 year warranty (extended warranties available).

What can I do to improve my hearing??

Eliminate or lower unnecessary noises around you.

Let friends and family know about your hearing loss and ask them to speak slowly and more clearly, not louder! Speaking louder only increases distortion.

Ask people to face you when they are speaking to you, so you can watch their faces and see their expressions.

Utilize sound amplifying devices on telephones, or purchase an amplified telephone.

Use personal listening systems to reduce background noise.

Tips to maintain hearing health

If you work in noisy places or commute to work in noisy traffic or construction, choose quiet leisure activities instead of noisy ones.

Develop the habit of wearing earplugs when you know you will be exposed to noise.

Earplugs reduce about 25 dB of sound and can mean the difference between a dangerous level and a safe level of noise.

Try not to use several noisy machines at the same time (i.e., listening to headphones while cutting the lawn).
